Catherine Little and Gregory Myra | Light & Dark

Catherine Little and Greg Myra began their musical collaboration in the fall of 2021 when they released “Taking Five”, a classical music album featuring short, inviting pieces for cello and piano. One of the tracks went on to be featured on an official Apple Music playlist and the entire work won Music Nova Scotia’s 2022 Classical Album of the Year. Both creating the album and hearing the finished product revealed the dynamism between the musicians and inspired them to seek a bigger musical conversation. As such, Catherine and Greg are set to unveil an album named “Light and Dark” on May 31, 2024. The album highlights two cello and piano sonatas, Mendelssohn’s D Major and Shostakovich’s D Minor. The title reflects the contrasting emotions of the sonatas; one exuding liveliness and joy, while the other carries a tone that is predominantly intense or melancholic. On the surface, this music is captivating in the way it speaks to modern listeners. On a deeper level, it connects us across history, distant borders, and as people. Concerts showcasing these sonatas are planned throughout 2024.
